The Four Noble Truths

A basic tenet in Buddhism which explains the cause of suffering and the way of deliverance therefore.

This was one of the first doctrines taught by the Buddha after his enlightenment.

1) The holy truth of suffering.

2) The holy truth of the cause or source of suffering.

3) The holy truth of the cessation of suffering.

4) The holy truth of the path leading to the cessation of suffering (the Noble Eightfold Path)
